Mini-story time (vol.2): Conflict island

Imagen
"CONFLICT ISLAND" The island was so small that only two people could fit in there. It appeared in 1995, in the middle of the sea. Some say it was because of dark magic; however, the most convincing hypothesis was that the island was just a big chunk of rock that had broken and fallen from a cliff, and, as a result, got carried away by the waters.             The island was always in motion, making its way through every sea and ocean, visiting the whole world; it was so small that everything, even the lightest of the breezes, could make it move. It had never stopped its journey since 1995, and it became so famous that all the countries wanted to take advantage of it and use it for tourism.             “It could be a gold mine. Think of all the money we could earn from it!”, once said the governor of one country.             “Every citizen has heard of this isle. When it comes to our coasts, they become crazy: they want to take pictures of it, and even walk on it, but

Spooky story: What happened to Mary Celeste?

Imagen
Ahoy, random readers! Tonight, I am telling you a real spooky story. 😱 It is about a " ghost ship ", discovered adrift and deserted in the Atlantic Ocean off the Azores Islands on December 4th, 1872 . It was called Mary Celeste, and she had left New York City for Genoa on November 7th. T he captain of the Canadian brigantine Dei Gratia spotted her and ran it inch by inch with his binoculars, without a soul in sight. It looked like a ghost ship. It swayed in a zig zag way, just with the jib and fore-end. The other sails were folded. The Dei Gratia changed course to check for people aboard the Mary Celeste. When her sailors finished their climb up the ladder and reached the deck, they found everything quite disturbing from the start. The charts were scattered on the ground as if they had been thrown into the air. The belongings of the Mary Celeste's crew were still in their cabins along with her cargo of denatured alcohol . What was not was the only lifeboat on the ship.

My favourite corners around the world: Zoo Berlin

Imagen
The Berlin Zoological Garden is the oldest zoo in Germany and is now one of Berlin’s best-known attractions. It is also one of the biggest zoos in Europe and it is the perfect place to spend an unforgettable and memorable day with your family or friends.  Generally speaking, zoos are where many children have their first contact with diverse animals. They can meet animals like tapirs, goats and penguins. In fact, this is an experience that leaves a lasting impression. I had one these experiences when I visited this zoo during my summer holidays in Berlin in 2018. This zoo is divided into three different areas: the Zoo, the Tierpark and the Aquarium. You will need three or four hours to complete the whole tour as it is one of the biggest zoos in Europe. As visitors you will learn all about how the animals have adapted to their environment, as well as how they reproduce and communicate. For example, you will have the chance to watch rhinoceroses and tapirs underwater. At the Aquar

Top 10 composers that (I believe) everyone should listen to

I salute you, fellow readers of this arbitrary webpage! It's been a while! For today's post, I'm bringing a new and totally different topic to talk about: classical music . I'm aware that a huge majority of people do not like listening to it, mostly because they have made wrong judgements about this wide musical genre, or because their ears just have a different musical taste,  or because they have heard from others that it's boring and just adopted that opinion without making one for themselves - however, I'm not going to be defending classical music in this post. Instead of showing its highlights and presenting a thesis on how it contains so many genres from all around Europe that you could never get bored of it or find it monotonous,  I'm just going to give you my top 10 composers. However, as I like all of them (and more!) that I won't be showing, the list will be arranged according to who I currently listen more to.  I love classical music,

7 Reasons Why Everyone Should Watch "The Queen's Gambit"

Imagen
The Queen's Gambit is an American miniseries clasified as "drama", which was premiered this year, on October 23rd, for the giant entertainment platform called Netflix. Is is based on a novel of the same name, by the writer Walter Tevi, published in 1983. The story's plot starts in the 1950's and ends in the 1960's, and it shows us the raise of a 9-year-old chess prodigy called Elisabeth Harmon,  who develops a  dependence on the green tranquilizers given to the children of her orphanage, and becomes USA's  chess  master.  The Queen's Gambit has caused a huge global sensation. Just a few weeks after being released, it hit Netflix's "most-watched" ranking. It even reached the top in Spain, being the Nº1 trend for many days. But this achievement wasn't just a stroke of good luck: there are several reasons why this chess miniseries is so addictive.  1. First of all, it is not just about chess. The main character, as the only femenine p

All you need to know about infographics (+ their recipe)

If students were asked by their teacher about the definition of "infographic", they normally wouldn't need much time to come up with a straightforward answer (of course, after getting over the confusion of hearing such an unusual request). A student chosen at random could answer: "they are graphics which contain information". And it is true, partly...  But it is so much more than that. I mean, there is a whole Wikipedia article about it.  Welcome to the entry of your dreams, the most exciting, breathtaking and appealing (yes, all at once) piece of information you may ever find: an entry about everyone's favourite kind of chart, the infographic.  First of all, I am sure that you cannot wait to read the standard dictionary definition:  a visual representation of information or data, e.g. as a chart or diagram.  Others may explain, in different words, a similar thing: " a collection of imagery, charts, and minimal text that gives an e asy-to-understand ove

Tasty bites to brighten someone's day

Good morning, dear readers! I hope you are having an amazing Monday, and welcome to this new blog entry about... MINIPIZZAS! I personally think they are a great recipe to carry for a picnic, as they are small and easy to make a pile of and, of course, to make. It is also quite cheap! In order to cook some delicious minipizzas, all you need is some patience and the following ingredients:  MINIPIZZAS FOR 4-5 PEOPLE For the dough:  -250 ml of warm water (it helps activate the yeast, along with the sugar) -A spoon of Active Dry Yeast -5g of sugar -1+1/2 spoon of olive oil  -500 g of flour  -5g of salt For building  up the minipizzas:  -Grated cheese (you can buy a bag at the supermarket, or just take any cheese and grate it by yourself with the aid of a hand grater).  -Tomato sauce -Any toppings you like (pepperoni, salami, bacon, tuna, mushrooms, some chopped olives...).  -A bit of oregano (it gives a really nice touch) You can make the dough by hand, but instead I used a bread machi
